Location

Sands Lodge is pleasantly situated within Westcliff-on-Sea in walking distance from the sea front and close to local amenities, including Chalkwell Park, the library, shops, theatre and local transport routes with Westcliff station down the road. We also have access to a people carrier and public transport which are use regularly and have some excellent travel links into central London and the surrounding areas.

Our service users living at Sands Lodge benefit from a wide range of local facilities. Southend is well resourced with facilities such as shops, library, bowling centres, theatres and cinemas, and the people we support are encouraged to plan their own outings by providing them with choices.

Sands Lodge is run as a family style home for vulnerable adults with a mental health disorder and/or a learning disability. It provides privately owned accommodation for 18 residents with 8 single rooms and 5 shared rooms. Visits from relatives and friends are encouraged and supported.

Links with our service users begin when we are invited to become involved. Assessments are made and histories taken to enable us to begin to get to know the individual before coming to stay at Sands Lodge.

We encourage service users to personalise their rooms by bringing with them photographs, ornaments, books etc. Safe keeping facilities are provided for service users valuables.

Detailed background knowledge from the service users and their support workers, relatives and others help us to plan their care. A member of our care staff (Keyworker) will be assigned to each service users to provide support, one to one therapy and to discuss any worries the service users may have.

The Keyworker and service users prepare an individualised care/support plan. This is used to monitor individual progress and to support service users to achieve their goals and promote independence. Service users are encouraged to participate in day-to-day life as this builds their confidence. As each service users makes progress and shows independence their aims and goals are, with agreement, extended.
